Dm
Carl was a bad boy, he broke another glass
A                  filled up with fresh grape juice, walking way to fast.
Dm              The stain’s still in the carpet underneath the couch.
A       Dm    It’s not the only one. Now his mommy is a grouch.
Bb  A  Dm   I suppose you would, too, if Carl was your son.
A                 He means no harm or trouble, but he’s the only one
Bb  A  Dm   who’s broke so many things throughout all the years.
A       Dm    He always gets in trouble then is spanked until he tears.

Dm              Carl was a bad boy, he broke another window
A                  playin’ with the neighbor boys. He hit it with a baseball
Dm              it smashed into the fishbowl and cracked the glass, “Oh no!”
A       Dm    It wouldn’t be so bad if the cat were not below.
Bb  A  Dm   Now she’s scared of everything and everyone she sees
A                  except for that boy Carl, she still purrs at his feet.
Bb  A  Dm   Since he’s in such trouble, her comfort makes him glad.
A       Dm    Otherwise his clumsiness would only make him sad.

Bb     A        Clumsy Carl never asked for much
F       Gm     but he always gets in trouble for bein’ such a clutz.
Bb     A F     Clumsy Carl has a broken heart
A       Dm    ‘cause his mommy is mad and her scolding is sharp.

Dm              Carl was a bad boy, he broke the pink flamingo.
A                  He bent it with the lawn mower when he lost control.
Dm              His daddy was mad, but his mommy was glad.
A       Dm    She never, ever liked it. She thought it looked bad.
Bb  A  Dm   She took Carl in her arms as happy as could be
A                  and said, “My darling boy, you’re wonderful to see,
Bb  A  Dm   “if you weren’t such a clutz that flamingo would still be
A       Dm    “where I’ll put that bird bath for my birthday you gave me!”

Bb     A        Clumsy Carl never asked for much
F       Gm     but he always got in trouble for bein’ such a clutz.
Bb     A F     Clumsy Carl had a broken heart
A       Dm    ‘til his mommy kissed his forehead and said, “thanks for being Carl”.
