1) Malcolm's Window                        Prologue

Dividing lines with a broken mind you're
bound to find what it's like to be
cast into a raging sea of loneliness.

Lonely tides will rise inside the
tears you cried while realizing the
words you sing won't be missed.

Missing me while wishing we could
fish the seashore for more surely
            sunken seeds of tranquility.

Tranquil stares through hallowed glares who
cares to share some secret thought that
            brought out his reality.

            And it all falls down.
It's a feeling filling everything around.
            And it all falls down.
            down.
            down.
            down.
            down.

                                                                         Malcolm Mohil
                                                                         Tranquil Lines

Malcolm gazed out his bedroom window. The autumn air was foggy and crisp. A thin layer of frost grew on the bare tree stems, fragile crystals giving the outside world a feeling of purity. This was in stark contrast to the confused thoughts passing through Malcolm's fragile and cloudy mind.

A gray-haired lady passed by, being led by her curious dog, both in its impatient gate and steadfast determination to stop and sniff out every canine odor it could find. The woman seemed not to hurry or worry about the pulling and dragging dog. Her patience was in stark contrast to Malcolm's yearning desires to settle things now.

He watched a pair of young lovers enjoying each other’s hands and hearts walk by. The girl stopped to pick an apple from a tree growing in Malcolm's front yard. She kissed it and gave it to her partner, who took a bite with wide eyes.

He watched kids pedal past on their bicycles, racing beneath falling leaves. He watched parents push their babies in strollers, dreaming of watching their children grow strong. Each passing person's noticeable excitement was in stark contrast to Malcolm's growing despair.

Malcolm wouldn't be joining these people tonight. The thought of opening the door and venturing out into the coming cold darkness brought light nausea to his belly and slight anxiety to his head.

Tonight he would weep. Tonight he would wallow. Tonight he’d lie awake in bed, feeling a part of himself die. The love he shared with Becky was over. She was gone. His heart was broken. The agony and torment was just beginning.
