Em Am Em  repeat

Em Am Em  Am  Em Am Em         So much senseless suffering when the world warred.
Em Am Em  D Bm F# F#sus4 F#   Soldiers killing others and mothers’ pleas ignored.
D        Bm       G     Bm Em Bm        Blown up buildings stained with blood and countless severed limbs.
Em Am Em  D     Em Am Em         It’s hard not to imagine the pain it must have been.

Em Am Em  Am  Em Am Em          I can’t imagine much worse than to be under siege.
Em Am Em  D Bm F# F#sus4 F#   An army all around you and you’re their enemy.
D        Bm       G     Bm Em Bm       They first send in their bombers.  You hear them bearing down,
Em Am Em  D     Em Am Em         the engines up high whirring,  then the whistling sound

Em Am Em  Am  Em Am Em         of the bombs above you. The blasts follow fast,
Em Am Em  D Bm F# F#sus4 F#   then the screams of people through the night it lasts.
D        Bm       G     Bm Em Bm      The lucky ones who make it to the morning dew
Em Am Em  D     Em Am Em         can search for more survivors who hope for rescue.

Em Am Em

D                    Em Am Em               Why, oh, why do we war?
D                    Em Am Em               Why can’t we realize there’s so much more
D       Bm        D         Bm                then dropping bombs on other’s homes and hoping that they’ll die?
D       Bm        G   D   A  Asus4 A   Causing senseless suffering and making people cry,
Bm  G  F#  D Bm Em Bm              “Why, oh, why do we war?”

Em Am Em  Am  Em Am Em         So much senseless suffering.  It’s happening right now.
Em Am Em  D Bm F# F#sus4 F#   Anyone can see it and even wonder how
D        Bm       G     Bm Em Bm        our leaders can keep a straight face as they try
Em Am Em  D     Em Am Em         to justify decisions infecting all our lives.

Em Am Em  Am  Em Am Em         Technology and warfare have always been tied.
Em Am Em  D Bm F# F#sus4 F#   Making better weaponry to insure you won’t die.
D        Bm       G     Bm Em Bm        Now our bombs can blow apart our planet quite complete.
Em Am Em  D     Em Am Em         I’m sure you agree with me that’s worse than defeat.

Em Am Em  Am  Em Am Em         If you hope our children will have a better home.
Em Am Em  D Bm F# F#sus4 F#   If you home our children, give them peace and hope and
D        Bm       G     Bm Em Bm        teach them that the last resort is warfare for defense,
Em Am Em  D     Em Am Em         lead with compassion and enhance their common sense.
