C
F C Phil was a flea with a bud,
C
F G a dog who he lived on, who gave Phil his
blood.
C
F C Through fields and forests Rex would take
Phil,
C
G C 'til one day he saw
her and gave Phil a thrill.
G
C G "Oh, Rex! She is sure sweet!
G
D G "If I could get
closer, I'd kiss her complete."
C G C G Rex wagged his tail and
continued to drool.
C G D G "I'll help you out, Phil, 'cause I've been there,
too."
F
C
F C The flea of Phil's
fancy lived on a cat,
C
F G who lounged in the
sun, lazy and fat.
C
F C Rex went in to greet
his feline housemate.
C
G C He sniffed her behind
as Phil leaped for his fate.
G
C G Oh, woh! Love is sure sweet!
G
D G When it flows like
your warm blood that feeds these fleas.
C G C G It makes you leave home, chasing the breeze.
C G D G You'll lose all your reason when your heart has been seized.
F
C
F C Phil roamed in the forest of tabby-cat hair.
C
F G Looking for Love that he hoped to share.
C
F C When he stumbled upon the flea he fancied,
C
G C his heart skipped a
beat as he fell to his knees.
G
C G "Oh, sweet flea
of my dreams!
G
D G "I left my dog
home when I saw you sucking.
C G C G "I've wandered through forests. I'll do anything,
C G D G "just to be in your presence, my syphon Queen."
F
C
F C "I'm Phil at
your service, and what is your name?"
C
F G "Flo." then
she told him, "Now out of my way!"
C
F C She
sprang like a spring. Phil followed
behind.
C
G C He wanted to suck her into his mind.
G
C G "Oh, Phil, you are a bore!
G
D G "Your sucker is short. You ain't worth my amore
C G C G "Leave me alone, before I get sore!
C G D G "I didn't request you.
Don't come æround here no more."
F
C
F C Phil
fell off of the cat.
C
F G His
heart had been shattered and tattered like rags.
C
F C He
laid in the carpet, alone with his tears
C
G C 'til hunger awoke him
after what seemed like years.
G
D
G D He leaped and he
landed onto a mouse
D
G A who was running away
from the cat and his spouse.
D
G D He let the cat catch
him, who then swallowed him whole.
D
A D Phil was digested,
then sucked up a hole.
A
D A "Oh, no! What have I done?"
A
E A Phil's cells had been
sucked into Flo's abdomen.
D A D A She tasted her meanness and that she spurned the One.
D A E A For into Flo's mind Phil's Love had begun.
G
C
F C Flo was a flea with a
bud.
C
F G A cat who she lived
on, who gave Flo her blood.
C
F C Through fields and
forests the cat would take Flo,
C
G C searching for
Phil. "My Love, where did you
go?"
G
C G "Oh, Flo, forget
your plight.
G
D G "Lay your sad
head down. I'll hold you tight.
C G C G She tells me her story with tears every night.
C G D G She'll live on my head until she feels alright.
