{G } {C G }          The beauty of decay's not easy to behold.
{G } {D }               From potholes to bread mold, it all keeps gettin' old.
{C G } {G Em }   So when your course gets bumpy and the fungus takes ahold,
{C D } {D G }      remember that without it this story could not be told.

{G } {C G }          Our medicine is modern, but the remedy's the same.
{G } {D }              Ask your Grandma 'bout it if she is still sane.
{C G } {G Em }   Since everybody's bound to times forever flow
{C D } {D G }      eventually you'll know what she may have spoke.

{D } {C G }           "I am alive! I am alive!
{D } {C G }           "Allow me to exclaim aloud, "I am alive!"
{Bm C } {Bm C}   "When you look at all my wrinkles, see beauty in my eyes.
{Bm C } {D G }    "Please promise to see that long as I am alive."

{G } {C G }          I notice all the cracks creeping up my wall.
{G } {D }              My house was built in '36, during our nation's fall.
{C G } {G Em }   The Depression smashed our county, but it rose again
{C D } {D G }      and my house is still standing, a bit weathered in the wind.

{G } {C G }          There's chaos in the kitchen. There are no more clean bowls.
{G } {D }              This isn't the first clutter just unfolds.
{C G } {G Em }   And the vacuum is broken and my dog keeps shedding hair.
{C D } {D G }      There's just one thing to say as I avoid it in my chair.

{D } {C G }           "I am alive! I am alive!
{D } {C G }            "Allow me to exclaim aloud, "I am alive!"
{Bm C } {Bm C}   "My dirty stinky dishes may only attract flies
{Bm C } {D G }    "but I'll get to them soon long as I am alive."

{G } {C G }          Spring cleaning comes again, there's so much I don't need.
{G } {D }              But I want to keep the things that bring good memories.
{C G } {G Em }   But the dust has settled inches thick. They don't always get through
{C D } {D G }      and mice have ruined all the rest with there pee and poo.

{G } {C G }          Fertile ground requires balanced nutrients.
{G } {D }              Compost is pure decay and look what it gives to plants.
{C G } {G Em }   They soak it in and grow their limbs and flowers and their seeds.
{C D } {D G }      Hear the worms harmonize as they feed on leaves.

{D } {C G }           "I am alive! I am alive!
{D } {C G }            "Allow me to exclaim aloud, "I am alive!"
{Bm C } {Bm C}   "As the world decomposes, life will always thrive
{Bm C } {D G }    "'cause everything everywhere is all so alive."

{Em } {C } {C Bm } {Em } "I am alive! I am alive! I am alive! I am alive!
