F#       A  F#   I saw an old beer bottle    lying in the mud,

A  B  F#    walkin' in the woods          with my dog.

A  E  B   F#      I passed it by, I didn't even try to pick it up

A  B  F#    but thought, "What the hell, it's only one."

F#       A  F#   I turned round to get it       but was struck,

A  B  F#    for all around was              garbage like a dump.

A  E  B   F#      There were plastic bags, oily rags, and piles of other junk,

A  B  F#    and thought, "What the hell!  This place is fucked!"

Chorus:

E        B          A creek flowed by              one foot away

A  B  C#m             burying the trash in layers of decay.

B  A  E    F#    It slowly disappears as more junk reappears

A  B  F#                 'cause too many here don't care.

F#       A  F#   One beer bottle                    turned into two bags

A  B  F#    of cans and sacks, some sneakers and the rags.

A  E  B   F#      There was a copy of Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant.

A  B  F#    I thought, "What the hell? It's Arlo's dump!"

F#       A  F#   I drove the junk to the county dump.  The folks were kind enough.

A  B  F#    They didn't make me pay to leave this stuff.

A  E  B   F#      But as I drove away I noticed the river rolling by,

A  B  F#    and thought, "What the hell, did I waste my time?"

Chorus:

E        B             A creek flowed by              one foot away

A  B  C#m             leaching out poison from the trash that decay.

B  A  E    F#    It slowly disappears as more poison appears

A  B  F#                 'cause too many here don't care.

E        B             Oh, oh. It's our dump.
