11) Resonance                  10) Falling In Love

Now I'm floating with a silver stream
I am the fish and it also seems
I am the rocks and the insects, indeed,
everything is one as we race down to the sea.

The whole world pulses with life's echo.
We all can be all that we know.
Look around and you will see,
nature is the door and living is the key.

Do you see the star above?
Will you hear the song of love?
Can you feel the fire below your soul?
            Burn away all you fear.
Close your eyes 'til all is clear.
Wake the waiting one who dwells within.

                                                                         Malcolm Mohil
                                                                         "Nature's Rhapsody"

Malcolm left and came back with his guitar.

"Are you going to serenade me, my love?"

"Yes, but not with a song. With my theory."

He climbed back into bed, tuned the guitar and played one chord. It was music to their ears.

"I just tuned the guitar to an open D tuning. Do you know much theory about music?" Malcolm asked.

"A little. I know the open D tuning's where you tune the bottom and top E strings to D."

"Yep, so now there are three strings tuned to D. When I play this chord, the reason it sounds nice is because all of the notes are harmonizing pleasingly with each other. The chord contains six notes, three of which are in the same key. They’re just in a different pitch. The other three are harmonics of the D note, but that's not important right now. Look closely at the strings when I pluck the low D string."

"Whoa! The middle D string vibrates! I never noticed that before."

"Resonance is the ability of one object to affect another object. It’s a result of the objects being able to harmonize with each other. Object number one has a certain vibration associated with it. This vibration's a carrier of information, which describes the wave pattern of the primary object. This vibration spreads out away from the primary object. If it has enough energy associated with it, it will penetrate the air friction. The secondary object will resonate with the primary object if it’s capable of receiving the primary objects information. Thus, the secondary object knows what the primary object's conveying. It knows it objectively, not open to interpretation. It’s a set frequency set by the laws of physics, something that makes a particular sound.

"An example's the low D string on the guitar. When it’s plucked it’s given life. It'll vibrate and carry its information about the D string out into the universe. The other D strings on the guitar are a harmonic of the low D string and will thus 'tune in' with the low D string’s tone and vibrate. If there were another guitar or a piano in the room and we plucked this D string hard enough, the D string on the other guitar would vibrate, too. The D string's vibration is also picked up by the eardrum, which translates the information into a recognizable sound by the brain. Thus, our brain knows what the D string's conveying.

"Resonance occurs on all levels of reality. We touch, taste, see, smell and hear because information about the world's conveyed to us by resonance. Resonance is how we perceive the world. Resonance is how we define and relate to the world.

"We also resonate with the world on levels beyond our five senses. There’s information being generated and vibrated out into Universe we’re unconscious of. If we develop an instrument that can harmonize with this information, we can then translate the vibration into recognizable information and develop a view of reality beyond our five senses.

"The brain's a remarkable instrument. It translates the information being generated by Universe into patterns we can comprehend. Thus, it’s a receiver of information. This is resonance.

"The information then causes the organism to respond to this external stimuli in an appropriate manner. You may think, 'Move my finger.' This thought will resonate through your nervous system and cause your finger to move.

"Your body's responding to conscious and unconscious thoughts. Your cerebellum resonates information about body regulation, making sure your heart beats and you're breathing. Your limbic brain resonates information about emotions. The emotions resonate to the endocrine system, which uses that information to produce the appropriate hormones. These hormones then resonate to the body, which feels the original emotion. Your neocortex resonates a thought to say 'I love you' which causes your vocal cords to produce the appropriate sounds. Your words 'I love you' resonate into my ears which my brain hears and causes me to feel warm and tingly."

Malcolm paused to strum the guitar, playing a happy melody. "Are you still with me?" he asked.

"Yeah. I think it makes sense to me. What you’re saying is resonation’s the underlying principle for universal communication."

"I couldn't have summarized it any better. As a reward, I'll resonate my love to you."

Malcolm closed his eyes to feel his heart. He imagined the feeling to be a glowing ball of love. He pictured it travel into his head, filling him with the essence of life. He leaned over and gave Becky a slow, love-filled kiss. She felt it burn down to her heart.

           "Thank you!" she said.

"So, limbic regulation occurs because of resonation?" Becky asked.

“Exactly. The limbic system's gathering information through resonance. My eyes see your facial gesture of pleasure which resonates into my limbic system causing my to feel happy."

           "Cool."

"Now comes the abstract interpretation of what that means to our discussion on miracles," Malcolm continued. "I know it's going to sound far out. Just listen with an open mind though, OK?"

           "Of course."

"When the mind thinks, it creates an electrical field at a certain frequency. All the neurons firing in the brain are creating a pattern. This pattern creates the 'aura' around a person. The aura contains the blueprint of the thought. Scientists can detect this using an EEG machine.

"When we think, we extend our thoughts outside of our physical bodies via our aura. Objects outside of our physical bodies may resonate with our thoughts if enough passion's given to our thoughts to penetrate the friction of reality. In a sense, we extend our mind outside of our physical bodies through thoughts and thus our bodies expand beyond our physical bodies. Universe can become our body if that's our intent. Becoming one with Universe is based on the physical laws of resonance."

"Whoa! That is pretty far out. I haven't learned about that in any of my psych classes. Well, I guess I knew about brain waves. But I never would've thought the waves are forming a pattern, or the pattern can create an aura and the aura resonates out into the universe."

"Well, to be honest, I don't think it’s very common. I think most of our thoughts stay contained within our bodies. If they didn't, Universe would've been torn apart by now."

"Yeah, I know some of my thoughts would've caused some serious destruction," Becky admitted.

"I'm not sure why or when it happens, but some thoughts do escape. I've experienced certain things making me think my thoughts affected something outside of my body. Like when somebody knew I was going to call or I've said the same thing at the exact time as somebody else. I've even had premonitions of important things happening in my life, things that were spontaneous and I had no way of knowing.

"Maybe this is the cause for Karma. Maybe this is how prayers are answered. I think this is the reason some people are 'psychic.'

"Maybe the only thing preventing us from realizing we’re more than our physical bodies is the thought we’re only our physical bodies. I mean, think of all the conditioning our society has given us. We've been brainwashed into thinking a certain way. We've never been taught how to think outside our bodies.

"The one good thing about religion is it gives us a spiritual connection. It allows us to accept there’s a spiritual realm. Though the dogmas of religion can be limiting, at least we've been given permission to pray. We've been given a loophole to break through the confinement of our body. Maybe that’s how certain thoughts can escape our minds and manifest in our lives.

"If we have utter faith our thoughts are information and can resonate with Universe, maybe we can affect Universe according to our intents. I believe those who've developed their brains enough can exhibit physic phenomena. People can learn to read minds, what parapsychologists call remote viewing. People can learn to determine the history of an object, what they call psychometry. People can learn to move objects with thought, through telekinesis. People can learn to find resources in Earth, using dowsing. People can learn to levitate themselves, to manifest something out of nothing, to heal people with thought, to do anything! This is all based on resonance: the mind thinks, Universe responds.

"Consciousness, or what we think with, and focused intent, the passion needed to penetrate the friction of reality, create everything in our existence. Our lives are a result of what we think. 'I think, therefore I am' means with thoughts, we create who we are. We're what we think we are. As within, so with out. As above, so below. Prayer, meditation and visualization are real phenomena that affect our reality. Even our everyday thoughts contain that power because they can affect how we’re feeling and how we’re acting which affects who we are.

"We resonate with life and life resonates with us. It's a mutualistic relationship because we’re connected through resonation. Universe depends on us as much as we depend on Universe," Malcolm concluded his pseudo-scientific sermon.

Becky just stared at him. She didn't know what to think. Did he really believe all this? Did he expect her to?

"I don't know what to say, Malcolm. I thought I was open-minded, but your theory's testing me. It sounds wonderful, almost believable. Do you believe it?"

"I wonder that, too. I realize it’s a stretch of imagination, but isn't that what we were talking about last night? Developing our potential brain to create an ideal reality?"

"Yeah, but our ideas were more tangible, more realistic. I don't know if I can accept my thoughts can affect the universe like you say. Sure I can think and cause my body to go plant a tree. From what you are saying, though, just by thinking, you can create the tree out of nothing."

"I suppose I am. If we were going to develop this theory to its potential, then you can create whatever you want. One step at a time, though. First you have to break down the barriers keeping your thoughts trapped in your brain. I don't think that will happen if you're still caught up in your past, or controlled by your emotions. Most people aren’t in control of their lives enough to hold a thought in their mind for longer than ten seconds. Maybe the thought has to be held longer, for hours maybe, in order for the thought pattern to be strong enough to mould Universe into it."

"Maybe. They are making brain interfaces, so someone’s thoughts control a machine’s functions. Maybe eventually someone can send a mental image to a 3D printer and have the item be made, at least.”

“I have a thought right now that's distracting me. My belly's resonating hunger pangs to my head. Do you want to break our fast and find some food?" Becky asked

"Yeah, that sounds good. If we're distracted by hunger, we definitely won't be able to concentrate on resonating to the world our ideal thoughts."

"One last question, Malcolm. Why do you say Universe with no 'the'?"

"I believe Universe is alive, like Earth or Sun. I don't say 'the Becky', do I?"

She smiled and said, "You're an interesting guy, Malcolm. I love you."

Malcolm felt warm and tingly. "I love you, too, Becky."

They gave each other a few kisses and a tender hug. Food was necessary fuel for their heads, as well as their hearts. They couldn't lie in bed all day, despite how much they wanted to.
