Prologue

Love. Ahhhhh. Heartbreak. Aghhhh! Observing the music, movies and books of popular culture, it’s easy to conclude nothing’s been a source of inspiration more than these two feelings. Turn on the radio and you'll probably hear a song about a man falling in love with a woman. He's walking on clouds, he's constantly thinking about his newfound lover, he wishes to devote his life to her and everything's beautiful, blah, blah, blah.

Maybe you'll hear a call-in talk show about a woman who just was dumped by her lover. She's miserable, everything seems futile, her world's crumbling apart, she's constantly thinking of him and her health's deteriorating. These are both very real and intense scenarios commonly experienced by people that have powerful effects on human behavior and mental health. Anyone who's experienced love or heartbreak can relate to these two situations. Thus, we have the popularity of this cultural expression.

What causes a person to fall in love? Why do people develop crushes and infatuations? Why is heartbreak the term used to describe what a person feels when they can no longer connect with what they're in love with?

This story’s about two people who fell in love. It's a story about the passion they felt and the love that grew between them. It's a story about their discovery of the most fundamental connections people have with each other.

It’s also a story about society, its institutions and the effects they've had on both the human and natural world. How do these lovers change their views and relationships with the world after they discover what love is?

This story attempts to explain the scientific and spiritual reasons for love and heartbreak, what they mean in the human experience and how a person can use these feelings to create a healthy and inspiring life, and as a result transform our society from one based on fear to one acknowledging the universal connection all of life shares.

This story also attempts to explain why love often times results in heartbreak and thus depression. This is a natural response and shouldn't be feared. This story attempts to describe how to benefit from that depression and rise above it, growing as a result.

This story is for those who've been hurt by any sort of relationship and have wondered what love is, this thing everybody has so much of, but is understood so little by most people. It’s for those who wishing to express love meaningfully and in turn, help transform the world to one where everyone benefits.
